Investigating an age-old Polynesian mystery in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. Rapa Nui is the most isolated inhabited island in the world.
DURING THE GREAT AGE OF PACIFIC EXPLORATION THE FIJIAN ISLANDS WERE GIVEN A WIDE BERTH BY SAILORS SUCH AS CAPTAIN COOK BASED ON THEIR OMINOUS REPUTATION AS “THE CANNIBAL ISLES”. UNLIKE A LOT OF OLD SAILING STORIES IT WAS A REPUTATION WELL DESERVED. I FLEW FROM AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND TO LAND IN THE HEART OF FIJI, THE MAIN ISLAND CALLED VITI LEVU. I HAD FIVE DAYS TO STOP OVER HERE ON MY WAY TO MEXICO. FIVE DAYS TO AVOID ENDING UP IN A POT.
I’m going on an adventure! (Obligatory Middle Earth reference)
Always embarrassing when you run into Paul Hogan. Even more embarrassing when you lose another game of Knifey Spooney.
No accusations. Just friendly crustaceans. Under the sea. I meet them all. Then eat them later.
